School trips form some of the most memorable moments in a student’s life. From day-long outings to ones that stretch through several days, school trips are not only fun and entertaining but also a great source of learning social conduct and discovering new places together.
For schools based in metropolitan cities like Mumbai, the options are aplenty. Here is a compilation of some of the best places in and around Mumbai that you need to take your students to.
Museums & Galleries
Mumbai has a wealth of museums and galleries that beautifully reflect the cultural richness of the country. From the grand building of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Museum to the intricately designed interiors of Bhau Daji Lad Museum, these museums teach history and art not only through their artefacts but through their buildings as well. The Jehangir Art Gallery and the National Gallery of Modern Art portray art from both new and master artisans, offering inspiration to budding artists. Apart from these, Mani Bhavan, Nehru Science Center and Prithvi Theatre are also excellent stops for a school trip!

Forts of Mumbai
Mumbai held the position of an important centre of trade even centuries ago, and therefore it comes as no surprise that the city is dotted with numerous forts. A school trip across the many forts in and around Mumbai can prove to be a fun way of acquainting the students with the city’s history. From the Portuguese Castella de Aguada in Bandra to the British Worli Fort with its spectacular view of the sea link, each fort is an ode to a different time in the city’s history. Vasai Fort also known as Fort Bassein which traces its history back to the Pre-Portuguese era or the Karnala Fort built by the Devagiri Yadavs are all buildings of great importance and tremendous beauty.
Parks and Natural Reserves
Mumbai can easily be defined as a concrete jungle but in this city of stone and glass, lies a very green heart. It has some mesmerising natural landscapes to offer if you have the eye and the will to look for them. Sanjay Gandhi National Park, formerly known as Borivali National Park is a protected area which lies within the city limits and extends to around 87 square kilometres and boasts wide varieties of flora and fauna. Another popular local park is the Sewri Mangrove Park which not only holds a dense mangrove cover but is also an excellent flamingo spotting point. Located 12 kilometre from Panvel, Karnala Bird Sanctuary offers splendid views of birds and Silvassa, and Bhandardara is other naturally buoyant places to visit if you are looking for longer school trips.

School trips cannot be discussed without the mention of amusement parks and in a city like Mumbai, there is no dearth of these. From the old favourite Essel World to the current Imagica Adlabs, the city knows how to do Amusement Parks right. For the hot summer days, there is nothing better than a trip to the Water Kingdom or a few hours spent at Snow World, and during winters, Della Adventure Park offers an excellent time out in the sun!
Cosmopolitan cities like Mumbai teach a lot about respecting another’s religion along with your own. The numerous religious buildings are proof of the same and prove to fantastic options for school trips. You can visit the Siddhivinayak Temple which dates back to 1801 and is visited by millions of people every year. Another favourite place of worship is Haji Ali Dargah. Surrounded by water from all sides, it offers spectacular views of the city’s skyline. You can also visit the beautiful Mount Mary Church, Knesset Eliyahoo and Global Vipassana Pagoda to make the students aware of the different religions residing in the same city.
